CHARLESTON, S.C. — A winery in California recovered four cases of Cabernet Sauvignon that were aged on the bottom of the Charleston Harbor in South Carolina.
The wine had been in the harbor for three months.
Divers recovered four steel mesh cases containing the wine Tuesday.
The cases were submerged at a depth of 60 feet back in February.
This is the first phase in an ongoing experiment to see the effects of ocean aging.
The wine will be sampled and chemically analyzed.
The winery plans to sink more wine for a longer period of time in the harbor later this summer.
