CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — A scorpion was found on a US Airways flight scheduled to depart Charlotte-Douglas International Airport for Newark on Thursday.
A US Airways spokeswoman has confirmed to Channel 9 that the scorpion that was found was dead.
Officials said they decided to fumigate the plane after transferring passengers onto another aircraft.
The aircraft was cleaned and is now back in service, according to officials.
About 90 species of scorpions are found in the U.S. All but four of these naturally occur west of the Mississippi River and are abundant in semi-arid regions. The highest concentration of scorpions are found in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas.
Though the scorpion has a fearsome reputation as venomous, only 25 species have venom capable of killing a human being.
