CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — For the first time, the public got to hear from key players about what is ahead as Charlotte prepares for the Democratic National Convention in 2012.
Convention CEO Steve Kerrigan met with Mayor Foxx, former Mayor Harvey Gantt and the leader of the local DNC Host Committee, Dan Murrey Tuesday.
Funding was a hot topic at the open discussion.
"Having to focus on the fundraising end means that we have to figure out what ways, even now, to include entire communities in helping us get there," said Mayor Foxx.
Dan Murrey said it is not all about getting money from local businesses, but helping them benefit too. One business owner asked how the DNC committee would guarantee minority businesses would get a fair share.
"We're intentional about what we're doing to pair majority and minority vendors and other underutilized artisans and subcontractors out there to, in fact, get the work," responded former Mayor Gantt.
The DNC will create an online business directory to help businesses, too.
