HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A tragedy was narrowly avoided this week in Huntersville when an AED donated to help save lives did just that.
Greg Latini started "Operation Sweet Tooth" in memory of his daugther, who died from a heart condition in 2016.
They raise money to buy defribrilators for local parks.
This week, visitors at North Mecklenburg Park used one of those donated defribrilators to save the life of a person in cardiac arrest.
"I was in absolute shock," Latini said. "I saw an email from the head of parks in Huntersville, called my wife over. She thought something was wrong and teared through the email and read it to her. We both were just sobbing tears of job. Told our sob that the defribrilators that we bought saved a life."
Latini said they have put defribrilators in many parks in Huntersville and he's already reached out to Cornelius and Davidson to start putting AEDs in parks there next.
