IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A person was killed after their car ran off the side of the road and into a ditch in Iredell County on Saturday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers say they went to investigate a crash just after 4 p.m. on Arey Road near Wallace Springs Road, where they found a 2000 Toyota Camry overturned in a ditch.
NCSHP says the car was heading west on Arey Road when the driver went off the right side of the road, hit a ditch, and turned over. The driver was identified as Andrew Vincent Wanat, a 27-year-old from Statevilles; he died from his injuries at the scene.
Troopers say the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened, and they were ejected from the vehicle.
NCSHP says high speed also caused the crash.
