1 expected to be OK after shooting at cabaret in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A person is expected to be OK after they were shot early Friday morning at a cabaret in north Charlotte.

The shooting happened at Candi’s Cabaret on Statesville Avenue, right off of Interstate 85. Detectives at the scene told Channel 9 they were called to the club at around 2 a.m. for a reported shooting. A witness told Channel 9 he heard six to 10 gunshots.

Several officers were still at the scene by 5 a.m., along with crime scene investigators. They left at around 5:30 a.m.

A sergeant told Channel 9′s Anthony Kustura one person was hurt but they’re expected to be OK.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they don’t have anyone in custody and they aren’t looking for anyone. They also said there’s no threat to the community’s safety.

When the gunfire first erupted, officers blocked Statesville Avenue, but the road reopened in time for the morning commute.

Channel 9 has reached out to police to learn if anyone will face charges for the shooting.
