1 hospitalized after home on Dawn Circle caught fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One man is in the hospital after his home caught fire in northeast Charlotte.

The fire started just after 7:30 a.m. Sunday at a home on Dawn Circle.

Fire investigators said the man did not have a working smoke detector, but somehow made it out of the home.

Investigators said when they showed up, the man was found outside. One of his neighbors said the whole experience really shook her up.

The fire was started by an unattended decorative candle. Fire crews said most of the damage is in the front room.

The homeowner is being treated for smoke inhalation and is expected to be OK.
