Man wanted for deadly Christmas Day shooting in northwest Charlotte arrested in Georgia

CHARLOTTE — A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in northwest Charlotte early Christmas morning has been arrested in Snellville, Georgia, police said.

On Dec. 25, officers said they responded to a call of someone being shot on Beatties Ford Road near Interstate 85 at around 2 a.m.

Police arrived to find two men who had been shot. MEDIC said one of the men died at the scene. Police later identified that victim as 28-year-old Fredrick Antonio Edwards.

The second man who had been shot was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers said a third victim with gunshot wounds drove themselves to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said Bruce Japel Adams was facing charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

On Jan. 27, officials announced that Adams had been arrested with assistance from the Charlotte FBI Office, Atlanta FBI Office, and the U.S. Secret Service Atlanta Office.

Officers with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department said they drove to Atlanta to interview Adams.

He is currently being held in the Gwinnett County Jail awaiting extradition to North Carolina.

The investigation into this shooting remains active and ongoing.
