Woman charged in fatal stabbing of estranged husband

BALLANTYNE, N.C. — A woman is charged with stabbing her estranged husband, a retired NYPD officer, to death at his Ballantyne apartment Tuesday night.

Carole Larossa is charged with murder and is being held without bond at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Larossa's friends told Eyewitness News they had been wondering why she wasn't returning phone calls. Many of her friends didn't know she had been arrested on a murder charge.

"I haven't digested it; you're the one who's telling me. I can't believe what's happened," said friend Rick Magasrevy.

Carole and Jimmy Larossa relocated to Waxhaw several years ago after Jimmy retired from the New York Police Department.

Friends said Jimmy recently moved out of their house into an apartment in Ballantyne. Carole was in the apartment Tuesday night. Police said a heated argument turned violent, and both suffered stab wounds.

Magasrevy said Carole and Jimmy seemed to be adjusting well as they moved to finalize the divorce. But, he added, he didn't know what tensions boiled beneath the surface.

"People can act," he said. "You see something from the outside, and you don't see. You don't know, what's really going on behind."

Magaresvy's wife, Marsha Magaresvy, said the Larossa’s were devoted parents to their 13-year-old daughter.

"It's just sad all the way around for everybody involved," said Marsha Magasrevy.

Marsha Magasrevy said Carole Larossa dropped off furniture last week as she prepared for her new life.

Marsha Magasrevy said she gave them several tables and chairs.

She said she left phone messages with Carole Larossa to catch up and get dinner, but her messages weren’t returned.

"I've never experienced that kind of violence, and I’m truly shocked. I'm shocked," said Marsha Magasrevy.

The Larossas’ daughter is being looked after by her grandmother.
