Classmates mourn death of 17-year-old killed in head-on collision

UNION CO. — Friends and classmates are remembering a Union county teenager who was killed in a car crash Friday night.

Angela Davis says she is relying on her faith in God now that she's planning funeral arrangements for her teenage son, a national guardsman.

"He would give you the shirt off his back," Davis says of her son.

Brandon Tyrell Chambers is described as a bright, outgoing student who loved God, his family and friends.

"It didn't matter what people's struggles were, he was always there," said Shione Sherrin, a classmate of Brandon's.

The 17-year-old's life was cut short on Landsford Road Friday night. Investigators tell Channel 9 Brandon was coming around a curve driving 25-30 miles per hour over the speed limit when he crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle head on. Brandon had just gotten his driver's license on April 1.

"As any mother would, I lost it," Davis said.

Brandon's best friend, Dashawn Delpleache, said, "I didn't want to believe it. I couldn't help but break down."

Brandon was a junior at Forest Hills High School in Marshville. Many of his peers wore red, his favorite color, to school Monday. They also painted a spirit rock outside the school. Brandon was involved in the school's ROTC program. His closest friends in that group are now relying on each other to overcome losing someone they call a family member.

"He's in a better place and we know that… it's just too soon," said Alondra Sanchez Arcia.

Angela Davis knows of one way she will honor her son's memory: "I'm just going to live each day like Brandon did… one day at a time and kept his mind on Jesus."

Two people in the car Brandon collided with were taken to the hospital. They're expected to be okay.

Students have planned a memorial for Brandon Chambers. It will be at Forest Hills High School's football stadium Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Brandon's funeral is Thursday at New Meltonville Missionary Baptist Church in Peachland. The viewing is from 3 to 4 p.m, and the funeral service will begin at 4 p.m.
