CHARLOTTE — An 18-year-old man has been arrested as the sixth suspect in connection with the Sept. 20 shooting death of a 4-year-old child on Grassy Patch Lane in northwest Charlotte, law enforcement officials announced Wednesday.
Authorities said seven shooters operating two stolen vehicles fired more than 84 rounds into four homes within a one-minute timeframe on Grassy Patch Lane. One bullet killed 4-year-old Caleb Flax and a second bullet injured a neighbor in the leg.

Dominic Springs faces charges of murder, attempted murder, four counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied residence and conspiracy to engage in a felony.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the shooting was an act of vengeance following an earlier shooting on Silver Birch Drive. Police said the primary target of that initial attack was 17-year-old Ian Garland, a student at Mallard Creek High School.
In addition to Springs, authorities have filed charges against Garland, 16-year-old Ar’montae Johnson, 17-year-old Antonio Kahron Ladson, 16-year-old Jaylen Vontae Barber and 22-year-old Terrance Jackson.
