GASTONIA, N.C. — An 80-year-old woman shopping at a Walmart in west Gastonia said she was preyed on by another woman who forced her way into her car.
Mary Marlowe said the woman didn’t get her credit cards or checkbook, but did get the cash she had on her.
Marlowe told Channel 9 the woman approached her as she was walking to her car and offered her a dollar to give her a ride to the traffic light at the end of the parking lot.
“I told her I couldn’t do that because I was sick and I wanted to get home,” Marlowe said.
The woman ended up getting into the car, directing Marlowe to take her through a neighborhood while Marlowe said she went through her purse.
Marlowe said that when the woman got out, she gave her the promised dollar, but had made off with all the cash Marlowe had in her pocketbook.
