CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After a quarter century, Amos' SouthEnd is closing its doors.
The owner told Channel 9 that the concert hall is losing the parking lot it has rented for 17 years to new development, making it harder to serve customers – one of the main reasons the venue is closing.
"The Charlotte music scene loses yet another venue, after the Double Door, Tremont, Chop Shop," said Phil Strickland, one of the sound engineers.
It joins a growing list of music venues in the city and other south end businesses closing their doors.
Just weeks ago, Phat Burrito shut down, following Common Market, the result of a changing Charlotte and redevelopment.
"It's all in the act of progress I guess, so they call it," one patron said.
But fans say all this growth is leaving gems like Amos' in its wake.
"These nostalgic places closing down, they're landmarks and it's hard to see them go, Charlotte won't be the same with them,” the patron said.
