Charlotte Rescue Mission feeds those in need on Easter Sunday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 250 volunteers spent Easter helping those in need.

The Charlotte Rescue Mission planned a formal dining experience for people across the community.

“We feel like it's a blessing to us, and we like we're the one receiving not giving,” volunteer Andrea Lee said.

Throughout the year, the Charlotte Rescue Mission has a live-in program for people who struggle with addiction or poverty.

“When I come in here, I feel the presence of God,” volunteer Jeff Matthews said.

Charlotte Rescue Mission executive director Tony Marciano said the meals were open to anyone.

He said it wasn't just about the food, but also a chance to shower their guests with dignity and with respect.

“Everything is about saying to the person, ‘We love you and God loves you and you have worth and value,’ and we recognize life may have been hard, but really with God's power, your best days lay ahead of you," Matthews said.

People enjoyed a free Easter lunch at the new Outreach Christian Center on Gossette Avenue in west Charlotte as well.

Officials said Publix, Trader Joes and other businesses donated the food.
