Avery County family loses nearly everything in house fire

House in Avery County destroyed by fire

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — The only thing Jacob Trivette and his family have left from their Avery County home is the clothing on their backs.

Around 1 a.m. on Feb. 15, Trivette’s home burned down. The fire cost the family everything because they don’t have fire insurance on the home.

A friend of Trivette, Nicolas Garcia, reached out to Channel 9 about the fire, explaining that by the time the family noticed the fire, it was too late. Trivette tried to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful. The friend says that the fire department arrived at a reasonable time, but nothing could be saved.

This isn’t the first time this family has dealt with a housefire, Trivette’s home caught on fire in 2000 when he was 16; his wife has also been through a house fire before, according to Garcia.

Garcia and Trivette started a Gofundme as an effort to begin replacing what the Trivette family lost.
