BELMONT, N.C. — A man is dead after being struck by multiple cars Saturday night on Interstate 85 in Belmont, police said.
According to officers, 28-year-old Marky Vongphakdy was walking in the center of the northbound lane on I-85 just before the Catawba River Bridge around 11:36 p.m. when he was hit.
Witnesses said Vongphakdy was wearing dark-colored clothing and couldn’t be seen until he was hit.
Authorities are still working to determine why Vongphakdy was walking on the interstate.
The road was closed for a bit while the police investigated the scene.
