Biologists testing to learn why hundreds of fish killed at Lake James

NEBO, N.C. — North Carolina biologists want to know what killed hundreds of fish at Lake James.

They'll be testing the water Wednesday at Paddys Creek in Nebo, after a couple hundred walleye fish washed ashore.

Duke Energy officials are also testing the water, because they have a hydroelectric dam at the lake.

People who grew up on the lake are upset.

One biologist said tests suggested a pocket of water with no oxygen formed deep in the lake, and the warm, dry weather is pushing the fish down into it, killing them.
