Broadcast leader John Humphries dies at 68

CHARLOTTE — John Humphries, a leader in the broadcast industry, died on Sunday. He was 68.

He got his start at Channel 9 in the early 1980s.

Humphries covered Charlotte’s first soccer team, the Carolina Lightnin’ and was part of the Channel 9 program that aired last year about the team.

Humphries moved from being a sports broadcaster to sales and then to TV station management.

He was recently inducted into the South Carolina Broadcasting Association Hall of Fame.
