Classes canceled after bus rolls down hill, slams into Concord private school

CONCORD, N.C. — A Concord private school is working on repairs after a school bus rolled down a hill and slammed into the building Monday night.

Head of School Frank Cantandore told Channel 9 a bus parked on a hill behind Concord First Assembly rolled down the driveway and crashed into the school, taking out an air conditioner unit.

Channel 9 has learned a ministry group at the church used the bus Monday night.

No one was inside the bus or the school at the time of the crash.

“This is pretty sad,” resident Jessica Love said. “It’s pretty scary. I’m just glad it was at night and no one was hurt. “

Officials canceled classes for about 220 high school students Tuesday as crews work to patch the wall and fix the A/C.

Classes will resume Wednesday.

“We’re hoping to have everything back up and running tomorrow,” Cantadore said Tuesday. “The high school students aren’t going to be too psyched, but we’ll be ready for school first thing in the morning.”

Concord First Assembly has about 800 K-12 students enrolled.
