Impairment, speed suspected in deadly head-on crash in southeast Charlotte, police say

CHARLOTTE — Impairment and speed could be the cause of a deadly head-on crash that happened Monday afternoon in southeast Charlotte, CMPD said.

The crash happened at about 2:40 p.m. on Randolph Road at Woodwark Lane.

A Channel 9 viewer sent photos of a mangled tree service truck and Acura SUV that were involved in the wreck.

A 2002 Acura MDX crossed over a cement median into oncoming traffic and hit the truck head-on.

The driver, Christopher Hargrett, 37, and passenger, Eric Adams, 54, of the Acura were thrown from the SUV. They died at the scene.

The two crash victims were not wearing seat belts.

The driver and passenger of the truck were wearing seat belts and were not injured.

The road was closed after the wreck during the investigation.

The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing.
