Cab company appeals after lawsuit against Charlotte, former mayor dismissed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte cab company has filed an appeal after two lawsuits it brought against the city were dismissed.

Cab company accuses former Charlotte Mayor Cannon, city of pay-to-play scheme

Universal Cab and Diamond cab filed lawsuits after city council awarded airport contracts to three other cab companies in 2011.

They accused the city and its former mayor, Patrick Cannon, of rigging the process against them. Last month, a judge dismissed those lawsuits.

Cab companies may sue to get back into airport contract

"We want to serve the city of Charlotte just like Yellow Cab, City Cab and Crown Cab. We want to be at the airport. We want to show them what we're capable of doing as well. We're not getting that chance," said Mohamed Moustafa with Universal Cab.

Meanwhile, Cannon's attorney said despite his conviction for taking bribes from undercover FBI agents, the allegations of extorting cab companies are not true.
