CONCORD, N.C. — Celebrating a hometown state champion is a rare occasion, and Cabarrus County is taking full advantage of it.
On Thursday evening, the county will celebrate Central Cabarrus High School’s men’s basketball team after their undefeated season that led them to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championship.
The event starts at 6 p.m. on the steps of the Government Center building on Church Street South and is open to everyone.
Last month, the Central Cabarrus Vikings beat Northwood High School 65 to 51, capping their 32-0 season.
Cabarrus Board of Commissioners Chair Steve Morris said the event is a way to show the team how much they inspire the community.
“Cabarrus County is so proud of the hard work, dedication, and collaboration that resulted in the Vikings’ historic season,” said Morris. “This is our way of showing this amazing team how much their achievements have inspired our community.”
