Carolina Panthers' ticket prices have climbed from $28 to $225

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Even though the Panthers lost Sunday, ticket prices have certainly spiked as the season has gone on.

This Sunday's the last game of the regular season. It's in Charlotte against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In August, the average seat was going for $131. Now, it's $525 -- four times higher.

RazorGator tells Action 9 it's actually the most expensive of any game this Sunday, and not just by a little. It's 45 percent higher than the next most pricey.

The ticket experts at SeatGeek said the average ticket last season was $117; this season, $172 and not just because the team has the best record in the league.

"A player like Cam Newton has all of a sudden become a guy that's like a ‘can't miss’ player in the NFL, where fans are willing to pay money just to see him play," said SeatGeek's Chris Leyden.

He compared Newton to basketball stars LeBron James and Steph Curry.

The Panthers are having an effect league-wide. Numbers show tickets in other cities have also gone up when the Panthers come to town.
