CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Add Charlotte to the list of cities AT&T has chosen to bring its next-generation wireless technology.
AT&T Inc. announced on Friday that Charlotte, Raleigh and Oklahoma City are among a dozen cities where the Dallas-based telecom giant will launch its high-speed 5G mobile network in 2018. AT&T (NYSE: T) said in February that it would build out its fifth-generation wireless broadband network in 12 cities by the end of the year, naming Atlanta, Dallas and Waco, Texas, as the first three markets and noting that others would be announced in the coming months.
“Having two cities in the second wave of our nationwide mobile 5G deployment is great news for North Carolina,” said Venessa Harrison, president of AT&T North Carolina, in a statement. “Not only does this keep our state on the cutting edge of advanced technology, with the potential for economic growth that brings, but it is a tribute to the pro-investment business climate which North Carolina’s leaders have worked hard to build and maintain over many years.”
