Charlotte airport locked down momentarily after security breach

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Douglas International Airport was locked down for several minutes after a security breach Thursday morning.

A representative with the Transportation Security Administration said a man went through checkpoint C at about 10:30 a.m. with a carry-on bag. The TSA officials said the bag went through the X-ray machine and a TSA worker called for a manual screening of the bag.

Before the manual screening could take place, the flier took the bag and walked off.

Following security protocol, TSA officials closed all checkpoints and halted operations at the airport while they used surveillance video to find the man. A TSA official said they were able to find the man in just a few minutes.

A TSA worker checked the bag and did not find a threat.

It's unknown whether the man knew that the TSA needed to manually check his bag.
