CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Benjamin McMiller, a music teacher at Oakdale Elementary School was arrested in November 2016 on charges of viewing and possessing child pornography.
He was sentenced Monday to more than 10 years in prison.
Detectives with the Special Victims Division received a tip in October 2016 that someone was viewing child porn in Charlotte. The division launched an investigation with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and determined that the account belonged to then 32-year-old McMiller.
Authorities said they went to his home and seized evidence.

He was arrested and charged with third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Channel 9 asked police if there is any evidence to suggest that McMiller had inappropriate contact with students at Oakdale.
“Right now we just have what I would describe as, when you are downloading video and pictures,” Barry said in 2016. “As of right now there's no known information for that.”
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said McMiller started working at Oakdale Elementary School in August 2015.
