CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Knights wore No. 42 on their jerseys Saturday night at Truist Field against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp as part of a weekend-long celebration of the legacy of Negro Leagues Baseball.
Jackie Robinson, who wore No. 42, broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball in 1947.
On Sunday, former Negro Leagues player and Rock Hill native Wali Cathcart will be honored at the ballpark.
The Knights will wear Charlotte Black Hornets uniforms at Sunday’s game, as well. The Hornets were a Negro League Baseball team that played in Charlotte from the late 1900s to the 1950s.
