CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte man is tied to a series of car break-ins spanning months across the city, police said.
Tyreel Deshun Johnson is now facing multiple charges tied to the string of break-ins at apartment complexes and hotels in Charlotte.
One of those incidents happened in December, at the Sheraton in Uptown.
Marvin Hicks said he was in town from Raleigh for the holidays when he became Johnson’s next victim.
“We were down there for a Christmas, company Christmas party,” Hicks told Channel 9’s Miana Massey.
The next morning, he said he walked out to the parking lot and noticed something wasn’t quite right.
“I walked down there and found out the window had been busted out,” he said.
He immediately called police and learned several other cars at the same hotel were also hit that night. Thankfully, nothing of Hicks’ was stolen during the break-in.
“He must have just climbed through the window, but he didn’t take anything, he just rummaged through,” he said.
Investigators have charged Johnson in multiple cases dating from October to January, from car break-ins at an apartment, a Holiday Inn and the Hampton Inn and Suites in Steele Creek.
Although nothing of significance was taken from his truck, Hicks said replacing the window still cost him several hundred dollars.
“Other than the glass and having to clean it up, it was a cold ride back to Raleigh,” he said. “That’s still $400 no matter how you add it up.”
Johnson was given a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on March 17.
