Man rams stolen car into two police cruisers in Gastonia, officers say

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Police in Gastonia arrested a Charlotte man after they said he rammed into two police cruisers Saturday night while trying to take off in a stolen car.

Officials said the incident started around 10:30 p.m. on East Ozark Boulevard near North New Hope Road when police tried to pull over Harrison Hillman, 20, for driving without his headlights on.

Officers said Hillman sped off towards Interstate 85, where he rammed the police cruisers near the Cox Road exit. He then jumped out of the car and tried to run away.

Authorities said Hillman was impaired at the time of the incident.

Hillman has been charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, fleeing/eluding arrest in a motor vehicle, resisting a public officer, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, two counts of injury to personal property and driving with a revoked license.

Hillman is being held at the Gaston County Jail with a bail set at $150,000. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
