Charlotte startups share how they’re pivoting, pushing through

CHARLOTTE — It’s been a tough road for Charlotte’s small businesses. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to bring new, unexpected challenges with no clear end in sight.

Local entrepreneurs knew they had to adjust — and do it quickly. There was no other option. There was no other way to survive.

Things aren’t getting any easier. Gov. Roy Cooper last week announced North Carolina would stay in Phase 2 of reopening for at least another five weeks. That means social distancing and capacity restrictions still apply for those businesses allowed to open.

The federal Paycheck Protection Program’s application period is up, and Congress has made no decisions about additional aid.

The Charlotte Business Journal caught up with five local entrepreneurs to discuss what’s next. All are making moves to ensure a future for their businesses. They are relying on an innate ability to innovate and pivoting where necessary.

These entrepreneurs shared their outlook for the rest of 2020 and how they plan to stay relevant in an uncertain environment.
