CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is seeking public assistance following two separate shooting incidents that occurred over the weekend at the Bar-H Arena in Shelby.
The incidents took place during the “N2-Deep” camp out/trail ride, which sheriff’s officials said lacked adequate security.
Deputies with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple shootings at the Bar-H Arena, located at 2018 Holly Hill Road.
This location has become a hot spot for issues related to private events held by promoters without sufficient security to manage large crowds and address arising problems.
In anticipation of the event, the sheriff’s office pre-staged additional resources and manpower in the area to keep roadways clear and provide a quick response.
On Friday at approximately 11:12 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting. On scene, deputies found two subjects had been shot by rifle rounds. These individuals were transported to the local emergency room to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
On Saturday, deputies responded to another shooting where one subject was shot in the abdomen. This individual also required medical attention and was transported to the local hospital.
Both shootings are still under investigation at this time and do not appear to be related. In addition to the shootings, the Sheriff’s Office responded to several fights that broke out during the three days of the event.
The sheriff stated that a lack of security, along with no real accountability for the event organizers, has led to an unsafe atmosphere for large events at the Bar-H Arena.
“When situations go array like this past weekend the safety of everyone in attendance, the community and the first responders are all put at risk,” the sheriff said.
These recurring acts of violence have created a public nuisance.
The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office intends to investigate these recurring acts of violence further.
Authorities are urging attendees to share any photos or videos that could aid in their investigation.
