Lamparter is battling a form of bone cancer known as Ewings Sarcoma, and is currently undergoing chemo and radiation treatments at Carolinas HealthCare Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte.
Local organization Dream On 3 had a surprise send off for Lamparter. The organization asked Lamparter what her sports dream would be.
She said she wanted to attend the opening game at MetLife Stadium to see the New York Jets.
On Sunday, Lamparter's dream will come true. She and her family will be in MetLife Stadium to watch the New York Jets on opening day.
Lamparter's family, friends and neighbors have come together in what has been appropriately named Alex's Army. Their slogan is "no one fights alone."
