64-year-old man stabbed to death in Steele Creek, police say

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department crime scene investigators spent a second day collecting evidence from the home of 64-year-old David Doyle Jr.

Just before 4 p.m. Sunday, detectives were called to Plantation Woods Drive after receiving a 911 call from someone saying they were concerned about him.
When police arrived, they found Doyle dead. He had been stabbed numerous times and his Chevy Avalanche was stolen, police said.

Police said they later found the vehicle, but won't say where.

Some neighbors in the quiet Steele Creek community are frightened and stunned, wondering who could've killed him.  One neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, lives just a few doors down from where the crime happened.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — "It's scary, this is a quiet neighborhood. I may have seen him one or two times in his yard just doing some yard work," she said.

Family members didn't want to talk on camera, but they said Doyle was a Vietnam Veteran, originally from El Paso, Texas.

They said he moved to Charlotte several years ago when he married his wife, Joan. She passed away from cancer in April.

Doyle owned several car dealerships in Wyoming, but neighbors said he lived in his home alone.  So far police have not revealed any info about a possible suspect.
