CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was rushed to the hospital after a crash Sunday morning in University City.
The crash happened just before 7 a.m. at the intersection of West W.T. Harris Boulevard and Medical Plaza Drive.
Officials said the officer was responding to a call when a Nissan Frontier ran a red light, causing the officer to hit the driver's side and driver's side passenger door.
The officer, Tangelia Bynoe, was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK. The driver of the other car was not hurt.
Police said they don't think speed or impairment played a part in the crash.
Authorities have not said whether the driver of the Nissan will be charged.
No other information has been released.
