Commissioner, community members board CATS bus to address security issues

CHARLOTTE — Mecklenburg County Commissioner Vilma Leake, faith leaders, community members and a former operator boarded a CATS bus Thursday with the same goal.

“And I wanted to see for myself what the atmosphere was like and the security, the non-security,” Leake said.

The security concerns for CATS operators and passengers aren’t new but reignited weeks after operator Ethan Rivera was shot and killed during a road rage incident.

In the video at the top of this webpage, reporter DaShawn Brown was on the bus as Leake and community members address security for drivers.
