CONCORD, N.C. — Cabarrus County broke ground Wednesday for a new aquarium at Concord Mills. The 36-000 square-foot aquarium will hold 5,000 marine creatures.
The Sea Life Aquarium is attached to the mall making it easy to access for shoppers, but the visitors bureau hopes it will also streak a brand new crowd to the area.
The Concord and Cabarrus visitors bureau doesn't have a projection on how many people they expect in the aquariums first year, but they say it will be a popular destination for families and school field trips.
The aquarium is expected to bring about 50 jobs to the area.
"It's pretty cool actually," said Denise Davis, mother. "We're really excited about the aquarium so I think we'll be here at Concord Mills a little more often."
The new attraction will also mean more traffic to an already congested area and Channel 9 will have more on that at 5.
