‘I need it’: Some say they won’t hesitate to get COVID booster shot

CHARLOTTE — In just days, some people may be rolling up their sleeves for a third time.

COVID-19 booster shots will likely be authorized soon for people who are immunocompromised.

Mecklenburg County resident Kathy Mercer has lupus and is immunocompromised. She jumped on the opportunity to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and said she will not hesitate at all to get another dose.

“I need it,” she said. “I feel good from the other one, and I am very grateful for the other one.”

Across the nation, trials have been underway to determine efficacy of a third dose. Rock Hill resident Frank Nichols participated in one of them.

“I’ve been wanting to be part of the solution from the beginning,” he said.

He got this third shot three weeks ago and didn’t feel any side effects.

“I feel good,” he said. “I have been able to run three miles, three times a week so it hasn’t affected me at all.”

Mercer said she supports anything that will offer her more protection from this deadly virus.

“I want to stay,” she said. “There are more things for me to do in life, and I don’t want to take it out with this.”

Whether you are getting your third dose or your first, Mercer is pleading for people to get vaccinated.

“If I am going out and doing this, dagum right, you should be responsible to do this for yourself and to take care for others,” she said.

Mecklenburg County Health Director Gibbie Harris told Channel 9 once booster shots are authorized, the county will bring them to any homebound resident who requests them.
