Residents told Channel 9 that there was a strong smell of gas, and many neighbors gathered outside, trying to figure out what was happening.
Charlotte Haz-Mat was called to the scene and MEDIC responded as a precaution.
PSNC Energy crews were able to cap the gas line around 6:30 a.m.
Charlotte Water confirmed they were dealing with a water main break in the area since 1 a.m. when their crew hit the unmarked gas line.
Neighbors in the immediate area had no water pressure in their homes, and it was unclear when the water main repairs would be finished.
The road was reopened before 11 a.m.
