Dash cam released in 2012 deadly officer-involved shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police released dash camera video Monday from a 2012 deadly officer-involved shooting in west Charlotte.

The judge just ordered the video released after a law put the decision to publicly release police videos in the hands of courts.

The video shows Michael Laney on a scooter following an armed robbery on Beatties Ford Road.

Police tried to pull Laney over but the dash camera shows him run off.

During the pursuit, Laney jumped off the scooter and ran toward Crestview Drive, where they said he reached for a handgun.

In the other dash cam video released by police, the officer said Laney had a gun in his waistband and that he reached for that gun.

Police shot and killed Laney and was found to be justified.
