Davidson library’s staff nominated for award due to difference they make in the community

DAVIDSON. N.C. — Wednesday is National Good Neighbor Day, and Channel 9′s Elsa Gillis is highlighting a different kind of neighbor -- the staff at the public library in Davidson.

Mike Cerkovnic said his dad always used to take him and his four siblings to the library while growing up in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. So when he moved to Davidson 14 years ago, he sought out the local library.

The former educator and avid reader has mentored students over the years, always meeting at the brick building along South Main Street.

“That’s what led me to become more aware of the gift that this library is to the community. The resources and expertise is just fantastic,” Cerkovnic said.

He’s one of many who finds solace in a chair surrounded by books, or on the steps for story time.

When he saw that Nextdoor, the neighborhood app, was looking to honor 100 neighbors nationwide who have spread joy or offered help in their communities, he nominated the staff at the Davidson branch.
