CHARLOTTE — A portion of Interstate 77 in north Charlotte was shut down for hours early Wednesday because of a multi-vehicle crash that left at least one person dead.
The crash happened just after 6 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-77 near the Interstate 85 interchange.
MEDIC told Channel 9 that one person was killed in the wreck.

State troopers have not said what led to the crash or released any names.

The southbound lanes of I-77 were blocked for nearly three hours while first responders tended to those involved and state troopers investigated.
Drivers were urged to use Statesville Road or Beatties Ford Road as alternate routes.
