ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — An armed suspect was killed Friday in a deputy-involved shooting, the Anson County sheriff confirmed.
Deputies said they were called to a home along Highway 742 just before 3 p.m. for shots fired.
While heading to the area, deputies learned the suspect took off in a red truck heading north.
Deputies said they tried to stop the truck about a mile from the home, but the driver wouldn’t stop.
The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Timothy Leroy Harrington, eventually stopped along Mills Road in Polkton and got out of the vehicle with a gun, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said Harrington confronted deputies before Deputy Lt. James Williams fired, hitting and killing Harrington.
Williams, a 23-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, is on paid administrative leave, which is standard.
The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case.
