Detectives charge man in shooting death of Charlotte man

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives charged a man, who was already in jail for unrelated offenses, with the killing of a man in west Charlotte last November.
 
Detectives charged Joseph Gerell Banks, 23, with the killing of Shakeem Ray Dickens.
 
After detectives interviewed Banks, they charged him with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
 
On Nov. 22, officials found Dickens in the woods in Westerly Hills Park. Medic pronounced him dead at the scene and said he had suffered a gunshot wound.

Banks will face a judge on the new charges Monday.   
 
Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
