HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Neighbors in a Huntersville community say they are fed up after a massive pond was drained, causing a road to buckle.
For the last eight months, neighbors along New Have Drive said the road closure has caused a hassle for their neighborhood after the developer decided to drain the retention pond.

Residents told Channel 9 once the water was drained from the pond, it caused the nearby road to slowly begin to buckle and become unstable.
This led crews to close parts of New Haven Drive.
As a result, neighbors said it has made it difficult for traffic like school buses and garbage trucks to get around the closure.
"It's a real danger and people come in even though they see it says 'Road Closed,'" resident Betty Caldwell said. "This road has been here since the 50s and people have been driving through forever so people want to know what's going on and then they get here and oops, they got to back out."
Residents told Channel 9's Briana Harper they have continued to reach out to DOT for help with the problem, but have not gotten a response.
