Doctors issue new warning regarding 'cinnamon challenge'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A group of doctors issued a warning against a game that involves swallowing a spoonful of cinnamon.

They said they have seen a five-fold increase in the number of calls to poison control centers from it.

Channel 9 first reported on the "cinnamon challenge" last year.

Thousands of YouTube videos show teens, even children, trying to swallow the spice without water.

But doctors now said it can cause choking, throat irritation, chronic breathing problems and collapsed lungs.

They said parents need to keep an eye on what their kids are viewing online.
