CHARLOTTE — A crash early Thursday morning involving a light pole blocked a busy south Charlotte road for hours.
The crash happened at 2:30 a.m. when someone hit a light pole with lines connected to it on Old Pineville Road, just south of Woodlawn Road.
The pole landed in the middle of Old Pineville Road and Duke Energy crews worked for hours to replace it. Police put out barricades but a Channel 9 crew could still see drivers maneuvering around them.
Mecklenburg County EMS said nobody was hurt in the crash.
UPDATE: A look at Duke crews replacing a light pole that had lines connected to it that was hit around 2:30AM. Down the road water from an unknown source has covered the road creating ice. Barricades are out but cars are driving around them. Please avoid! #clttraffic #clt pic.twitter.com/mnFUQLHZ7l

In the same area, Channel 9 saw a significant amount of water covering the road. Much of the water froze in the morning’s frigid temperatures and the black ice made the road slick for drivers.
It was not immediately clear where the water was coming from. Charlotte Water officials said they were unaware of any water main breaks in the area.
The ice and water were not far from the Blue Line Station.
