CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dozens of people lined up at a local non-profit’s food pantries Wednesday to get boxes of food ahead of the holidays.
Volunteers with Loaves and Fishes told Channel 9′s Gina Esposito they want to make sure families have enough food on the table this Christmas.
Wednesday is the last day families can receive food at one of the non-profit’s food pantry locations in Huntersville.
We visited the pantry and saw cars lined up to get a box of food for their families. Because of the generous donations from the community, most families left with a ham or turkey for Christmas.
Volunteers said they saw more than 2,400 families at its food pantries and more than 1,500 at its food shares last week. That’s a 56% increase compared to the same time last year.
If you are still looking to put food on the table for Christmas, Loaves and Fishes says there is still time to get help. It’s last food pantry is at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Salem Church. You can call Loaves and Fishes at 704-523-4333 to get referral for that.
