ASHE COUNTY, N.C. — Troopers are asking people to stay home Friday after a pickup truck slid off an icy Ashe County road and flipped, killing the driver.
The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. on Highway 16 near Shatley Road and Crumpler.
Highway Patrol said 74-year-old David Osbourne was driving north on the highway when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, down an embankment and flipped over.

Osbourne was confirmed dead at the scene. Officials said there was no one else in the pickup truck.
According to troopers, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, and that it was snowing at the time of the crash.
Channel 9′s Dave Faherty was at the scene and could see first responders and troopers working to clear the road, which was covered in snow and ice.
A Winter Storm Warning is currently in effect in Ashe County. Officials said 4-7 inches of snow is expected to fall and drivers should stay home if they can.
