MATTHEWS, N.C. — Matthews Police are searching for a man they say speeded past a police check point, leading officers on a chase and shooting at them.
MPD released dashcam video of the chase Thursday.
In it, officers are desperately trying to catch up with the vehicle.
The check point was in front of Mint Hill Middle School early Sunday morning.
They said the person, who was driving a red or burgundy Chevrolet Camaro, drove through the check point, almost hitting two officers.
Detectives said the driver continued west on Idlewild Road.
Officers said he was driving speeds of 100 mph and eventually police ended the pursuit.
A motorist told police he saw someone in that Camaro use a gun during the chase to keep police at bay.
"They did see someone hanging out of the window firing shots back at the officers," said Officer Tim Aycock.
Later that morning, Luke Jacunski spotted a gun on Idlewild Road.
Police believe it may be the same one used in the chase.
