GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A woman is dead and a man is seriously hurt after a Jeep and car collided in Gaston County Saturday morning, troopers said.
The crash happened on Old Dallas Highway near Robinson-Clemmer Road.
According to troopers, witnesses said the driver of the Jeep was traveling northbound, crossed the center line and collided with a car.
Officials said the driver, Sebastian Barnette, jumped out of the Jeep after the crash and ran. Gaston County police said they were able to track the driver and arrested him.
Trooper said the driver of the car was taken to a hospital and is in surgery and the driver’s wife, Dorthy Pickelsmier, who was a passenger, died on the way to a hospital.
Officers said Barnette was also taken to the hospital and they have a warrant for his arrest once he is released.
No other details have been released.
